Mentis: A Base Platform for Multiple Products

I helped create a white-label telemedicine framework designed for reuse across multiple companies.

Objective

The goal of this project was to build a reusable telemedicine platform that could serve as the foundation for multiple healthcare companies. Designed as a white-label solution, it aimed to make it easier and more accessible for organizations to launch their own digital health products.

The platform included essential features such as an integrated appointment scheduling system, support for multiple clinics and healthcare professionals, and a centralized electronic medical records (EMR) system—all within a cohesive and scalable infrastructure.

The challenge

As a product designer, one of the main challenges was simplifying the vast amount of information involved in building a telemedicine platform. From medical data to user flows across multiple roles, it was essential to create a clear, intuitive experience without overwhelming the user.

At the same time, close collaboration with developers was key to ensuring that our design solutions were not only user-centered but also technically feasible and aligned with the system’s architecture.

My role and responsabilities

I joined the product design team at the start of the telemedicine platform project. We followed an Agile Scrum methodology, maintaining close, ongoing communication with developers and the project manager. My main responsibilities within the product design team included:

- Creating and maintaining design documentation: user personas, user journeys, user flows, wireframes, and more.
- Designing a UI kit and establishing a design system for the platform.
- Designing high-fidelity screens, refining the look and feel to ensure a polished, user-friendly experience.
- Ensuring the design was adaptable and responsive across different devices and screen sizes.
- Overseeing design quality throughout the development process to ensure consistency and functionality.
- Conducting usability testing to gather user feedback and refine the designs based on insights.
- Preparing design documents and presentations to communicate design decisions effectively.

Collaboration with developers

In this project, close collaboration with the development team was essential to building a strong and scalable framework. From the early stages, we worked side by side to align on technical constraints, explore viable solutions, and ensure that our designs were not only user-centered but also realistically implementable. This ongoing dialogue helped us make smarter decisions, anticipate potential challenges, and create a flexible system that could be reused across different products. The result was a well-structured, consistent foundation that balanced technical feasibility with a thoughtful user experience.

Key features

Flexible Clinic Management: The platform supported both multi-clinic organizations with multiple healthcare professionals and individual practices. This flexibility allowed each user to tailor the system to their specific operational needs.

Integrated Appointment Scheduling: A built-in scheduling system enabled patients to book, reschedule, or cancel appointments easily. Healthcare professionals could manage their availability across multiple locations from a centralized calendar.

Secure Electronic Medical Records (EMR): The platform featured a centralized EMR system where healthcare providers could efficiently record, access, and manage patient histories, diagnoses, and treatment plans. All data handling was fully HIPAA-compliant, ensuring the highest standards of privacy and security.

Online Consultations: Real-time video call functionality allowed for smooth remote consultations between patients and healthcare professionals, offering a seamless telehealth experience within the platform.
