Hoober: Transforming business data into actionable insights

A mobile app and web dashboard for services businesses that transforms raw data into valuable insights, giving you a comprehensive view of your financial health and KPI’s

Objective

The primary goal was to develop a platform enabling small businesses to access their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through a customizable dashboard. Additionally, businesses could calculate their targets and create budgets, integrating with their existing tools.

Creating a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) within a tight development timeline presented a challenge. Balancing the need for essential features while ensuring a comprehensive solution required strategic decision-making.

The challenge

It’s not easy to track your customers, sales goals, sales by product type, and stay focused on your KPI’s. There were no products that centralized all this key information into an easy to use dashboard/mobile app.

The client needed to connect platforms that were less known but widely used by small businesses (mostly cleaning services, handymans, etc).

Another challenge was to present the information in an easy way for people that weren't tech users.

My role and responsabilities

I joined the product design team at the beginning of the project. We applied Scrum agile methodology and maintained direct, continuous communication with the development team, project manager, and stakeholders.

The following were my main duties on the product design team:
- Created and kept updated the design documentation: User persona, user journey, userflows, wireflows, etc.
- Ensured responsive designs for various devices and screen sizes.
- Maintained design quality control in the development of the product.
- Created an UI kit/Design system for the product.
- Perform usability testing to gather feedback and refine designs.
- Regularly meet with stakeholders to discuss progress, gather feedback, and adjust design strategies as needed.
- Design documents and presentations.

Two users for our product

The platform catered to business owners seeking a streamlined approach to monitor KPIs, set targets, and manage budgets. An administrator role was also identified for overseeing platform functionalities.

Worked closely with the client to understand and align with the platform's vision, leading to a collaborative redesign when I understood we weren’t headed in the right direction.

Created wireflows and low-fidelity wireframes to visualize and communicate design concepts effectively.

The wireflows allowed for collaborative testing with the client, ensuring alignment with the envisioned direction. This iterative process resulted in a design that resonated well with the client's expectations.

Collaboration is key

This case study highlights the successful collaboration between the designer and the client in creating a platform that not only met the technical requirements but also aligned with the client's vision. The emphasis on wireflows and collaborative design sessions ensured a user-friendly and client-approved solution that serves the needs of small businesses effectively.
